Abstract
The study investigates the rule of visual im,ages in illuminating the problems that entrab the american society in general and
the contombrary american family in particular as it is illusrated in
Shepard’s family trilogy cure of the starving classe, Buried child, and true west .
the study ends in locating four aspects of visual images in Shepard’s theater, namely the setting of action and the sympolic objects on it, character-portrayal, the picturesque encounter between chracters and the various kings of food and drink, that are all used metaphorically to indicate different layers of meanings.
