Abstract The present study examines semantic roles in case grammar theory and its applicability to arabic case grammar is primarily concerned with the investigatio of verb-noun relations in sentences. any meaningful sentence has a verb and one or more nouns which occur with this verb for case grammer, the verb noun relations are mainaly semantic, thus, for example, in the boy ran. there is an action which is that of running and there has to be a performer of that action who is the boy. The relation between the verb and the noun in this example is that between an action represented by the verb (run) and the performer of the action (the boy). |
