All animals located in 20 villages in Berket El Sabaa-and Sadat City Menoufia Governorate. Smears from brain sampls were examined by direct immunoflourescence for detection of rabies antigen from 226 stray dogs,2 foxes, 2 sheep and 1 donkey. 30 dogs were positively infected with rabies (13.27%), one fox of the two foxes examined showed positive immunoflourescence result and the two sheep and the donkey that had history of biting with rabied and showed clinical signs of rabies were positive. The hightest percentage of positive rabied dogs were (16.16%). in dogs over 2 year where 16 of 99 dogs examined The prevealnce of rabies infection in male stray dogs were at a percentage of (15%)as higher than in femal dogs were at a percentage (10.46%). In the present study brain samples were collected from stray dog and all samples tested by the diagnostic FAT .This test was proved to be fast and accurate in diagnosis of rabies . brain samples revealed a sensitivity and specificity of 100% using the fluorescent antibody technique (FAT). General histopathological examination is a non-specific and less sensitive method for rabies diagnosis. The histologic stains are non-specific and false positive results may be obtained. Animal-bite injury data to humans were collected from Menoufyia Governorate during the period between 2003-2008 The total number of animal bites to human recorded was 61034.
