Abstract

The problem of controlling the power control system of a nuclear power
plant is considered. Automatic power stabilization control is the desired goal for any nuclear reactor operation policy, especially, nuclear power plants
(NPP). External control is accomplished with control rods. Inserting or
withdrawing them will result in a power decrease or increase. In this thesis the
conventional controllers like Proportional -Integral-derivative (PID) were designed for the power control system of the nuclear power plant. A method to improve the performance of nuclear power plant is introduced. Combination of genetic algorithm technique and fuzzy logic control is carried out. The optimal parameters of fuzzy controller are achieved. These parameters include; the rule base, the membership functions, and the input scaling gains. Simulation results indicate that the genetic fuzzy controller greatly improves the
performance of nuclear power plant. Moreover, the proposed controller is
robust to any disturbance related to load variations. The pressurized water
reactor is selected as nuclear power plant, and it was simulated using
MATLAB/SIMULINK package. Simulation results indicate that the genetic
fuzzy controller improves the performance of the power control system, and its response is faster than those of a conventional PID controller and fuzzy logic
