This research aims,in general,at throughing light on problems and possibilities of agricultural horizontal exparsion in Egypt by finding out the economic and social justific— tions which necessitates adoption cf agricultural horiz— ital expansion policies and important problems which confront it. It also aims at reviewing determinants of agriculture horizontal expansion which comprises water resources and available quantity of it to be used in reclaiming new areas, agricultural investements, agricultural labour and organized framwork of agencies responsible for land reclamation. The study included also investigation of the prospects of agricutural Hori2ontal expansion i, Egypt and areas which could be added until year 2000 according to available quantity of water.
This study resorted in analysis to the descriptive method to deal with the variables subject for investigation It has reached the conclusion that present water resources in Egypt amount annually to 63.9 milliard cubic meters of which 60.4 milliard cubic meters are used and the surplus of 3.5 milliard cubic meters can be utilized for cultivation of new land. However,Egypt’s future water resources until year 2000 are expected to reach .89.85
