Abstract

The fabric drape coefficient is affected by different fabric properties
In this work, the parameters affecting the percentage of fabric drape were studied for different kinds of fabrics with different materials and different fabric constructions.
The ability of both regression analysis and artificial neural network to predict the drape coefficient in terms of fabric mechanical properties and fabric construction parameters was studied. A comparison between the two methods was studied.
Also the effect of some FAST mechanical properties and handle withdrawal force on the drape coefficient for different types of woven fabrics of different materials (cotton, polyester, viscose, linen with different blends was investigated.
Some mathematical correlations between drape percentage and each of FAST mechanical properties, handle withdrawal force, some fabric construction parameters were found using regression analysis.
For the lack of availability of a drapemeter in Egypt, a tester was designed and manufactured to measure the drape coefficient. The tester was built with image capturing system and image processing software. Two software systems were used (Adobe Photoshop to process the captured images, and then the Matlab used for area calculations). It was found that both regression analysis and neural network can predict the drape percentage from FAST mechanical properties, and the handle may replace the shear properties in the prediction relationships.
