المستخلص

Agricultural marketing problems have emerged currently as an important topic to be dealt with by research workers Sin the field of agricultural economics. Marketing channels, echniques, costs and prices have significant effect on the t agricultural farm and agricultural income. It has been ‘tound that marketing costs, in some cases, are higher than roduction costs, moreover, it has been found that market— jng costs of a commodity amount to more than half of its [price. This means that efforts to reduce marketing costs are (not less important than those directed to reduce production costs.
The current marketing system of horticultural crops in LEgypt suffers from several defects like high percentage of /losses, low quality, high marketing costs, lack of technical and economic marketing studies and the scarcity of market information, statistics, and news0
The problems pertaining to the marketing of horticul— j tural crops in Egypt are even more aggravated by the fact
that production takes place in frogmented small—sized farms mostly far away from urban consumer conccntrations represent— ing major markets.
( Consumption of fruits and vegetables in Egypt is faced with several problems among which are:cconsumer’s unawarness of the nutritive values of these products in human diet,
r lack of organized markets, and the lack of many marketing services like grading, sorting, packing, packaging and sto— ge facilities necessary to regulate supplies over the di— fferent seasons, perhaps all these circumstances in addition to other factors have caused wide fluctuations and instability of prices of fruits and vegetablex over the year against the interests of both consumers and producers0
