SUMMARY The present work was conducted at Assiut University Experimental Farm to evaluate 20 cultivars of diverse origin under irrigated (six irrigations) and stressed environment (one irrigation three weeks after the planting irrigation) for yield and related traits. Furthermore, to study the genetic analysis of yield, its components of 8-parent diallel in both F1 and F2-generations under irrigated and stressed environments. Cell membrane stability and chlorophyll measurements were done on parents and F1-hybrids under irrigated environment
The results could be summarized as:
I – Performance of cultivars:
A – Morphological traits:
1 – Days to heading:
- Highly significant differences among cultivars, yeas and their interaction were found in separate and combined analysis of the two seasons under normal irrigation and drought stress.
- Drought stress caused slight decrease in days to heading in the first season (0.59 day), second season (4.6 days) and combined means (2.1 days).
- The earliest cultivar Sids 4 headed after 55.0 and 54.5 days and the latest one was Canada 515 which headed after 94.75 and 92.38 days from sowing under normal irrigation and drought stress, respectively.
- Drought susceptibility index of days to heading varied greatly from year to year for most cultivars. The best resistant cultivars to drought were Sids 1 (DSI= 0.18), Sonora 64 (0.31), Debeira (0.34), Sahel 1 (0.35) and Sids 4 (0.36). While, Sakha 93 (0.62), Gemmeiza 7 (0.76),
