V- SUMMARY The present research was concerned with studying the response of yellow corn to population density and nitrogen splitting times under different planting dates. The variety used in this study was three-way hybrid 351.
This study was carried out in the farm of Kom Ombo Secondary School. Six experiments were conducted in 2005 and 2006 seasons, three in each. The three experiments represented three plantings i.e. on 23 May, 23 June and 13 July in each season. Each experiment contained two variables designed in split-plot. The first variable was population densities such as 15000, 20000 and 24000 plants/fed.
The second variable was times of nitrogen application. This variable was allotted in the sub-plot. The times were 2, 3, 4 and 5 times. Each experiment represented one planting date was statistically analysed. Then combined analysis was carried out among the experiments of each season was done to manifest the effect of planting date as well as to manifest all the interactions involved. The results obtained could be summarized for the traits studied as follows:
1- Plant height at harvest as well as number of leaves/plant reacted significantly to planting dates in favour of early planting. Dense plantings decreased these traits. Plant height and number of leaves/plant tended to be increased significantly as times of nitrogen application was increased.
2- Ear height tended to be decreased as planting date was delayed. Population density showed a significant reaction on this trait in favour of lower density. The dense planting lowered the ear height.
