المستخلص

Primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE) refers to an involuntary loss of urine during sleep in patients who have never achieved a sustained period of dryness. The natural history of PNE is one of spontaneous resolution, at a rate of 15% each year, as the child develops with 1% persisting into adulthood. Consequently, for the vast majority of children bedwetting is a symptom, not a disease. Although there is a high rate of spontaneous remission of PNE, the social, emotional and psychological costs can be great, particularly among school children. The etiology of NE is not completely understood. The condition probably has a multifactorial etiology. Several theories have been proposed, including genetic factors, abnormal uro-dynamics, and alterations in vasopressin secretion, sleep factors, psychologic factors, and maturational delay. Acupuncture is a treatment based on Chinese medicine a system of healing that dates back thousands of years. At the core of Chinese medicine is the notion that a type of life force, or energy, known as qi (pronounced ”chee”) flows through energy pathways (meridians) in the body. Each meridian corresponds to one organ, or group of organs, that governs particular bodily functions. Achieving the proper flow of qi is thought to create health and wellness.
