Abstract
SUMMARY
The present investigation was carried out at the griculture Experiment Station of the Agriculture Research enter, Ministry of Agriculture, Mallawi, Minia governor— te for three autumn seasons; i.e. 1980, 1981 and 1982 to tudy the effect of intercropping broad bean or wheat ith sugarcane on the productivity and the quality of the am and the companion crops.
The experiment was laid out in a split—split plot esign with 3 replicates Each sub—sub—plot contained furrows, 7 meters long and one meter apart. The main lots were occupied by the intercropping treatments; olid sugarcane and broad bean or wheat intereropped with ugarcane. The split—plots included the following inter— ropping patterns; one, three or five rows of the comp— lion cropS (broad bean or wheat) were sown between igarcane, ridges. Rates of N fertilization were arranged i the split—split plots; i.e. 90, 135 and 180 kg/feddan.
G.T. 54/9 variety of sugarcane was pianted by the y method in the first week of October in each year, while .za 2 variety of broad bean was sown in 15 November and .za 157 variety of wheat was hand drilled in the first ek of December in the respective years.
