Abstract Amorphous materials such as oxide glasses are widely used in various applications such as communication, and radiation detectors. This work is aimed to study some mechanical and optical properties of Borate glasses with the additions of TiO2, Li2O, CaO mol% and irradiated with ã– ray. The work of this thesis can be summarized in the following steps:- 1- The melt quench technique is used for the preparation of one series of 60 B2O3 + 30 Li2O + 10 CaO + 0 TiO2, 57.5 B2O3 + 30 Li2O + 10 CaO + 2.5 TiO2, 55 B2O3 + 30 Li2O + 10 CaO + 5 TiO2, 52.5 B2O3 + 30 Li2O + 10 CaO + 7.5 TiO2, 50 B2O3 + 30 Li2O + 10 CaO + 10 TiO2, 47.5 B2O3 + 30 Li2O + 10 CaO + 12.5 TiO2, 45 B2O3 + 30 Li2O + 10 CaO + 15 TiO2 mol%. Amorphous character of the prepared glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction technique. 2- Archimedes method was used for determining the density of samples and hence the molar volume. In glass system it was observed that there is a pronounced discontinuity in the compositional dependence of both density and molar volume. This behavior indicates a structural change in the glass network. The variations of density and molar volume with TiO2 content showed an increase in density with increasing TiO2 content, which may be attributed to substitution of boron atom by titanium atom. Also, the molar volume showed a decrease with increasing TiO2 content. 3- Pulse echo technique was used for measuring longitudinal and shear wave velocities, which were used to calculate Young, Bulk, Shear, |
