Abstract This study was carried out over a period of three successive years in 1987, 1988 and 1989 seasons. The purpose of this experiment was to evaluate the performance of young trees of some apple cultivers under Assiut conditions. These cultivars, namely: Anna, Dorsett Golden and Em Shemer. This investigation was arranged in a complete randomized design to study the following characteristics: A- Field observations: 1 - Tree growth (trunk diameter, length and cU.ameter of one—year-old shoots, new shoot length and weight of winter pruning wood) 2 - Buds development and flowering (percent of floral, vegetative and dormant buds). 3 - The percentage of fruit set and fruit DROP ratio. 4 - Fruit length, diameter and LID ratio. B- Laboratory determination: 1 - Average fruit volume and average fresh weight per fruib 2 - Total soluble solids percentage (T.S.S. %). 3 - Total acidity percentage. 4 — T.S.S./acid ratio. 5 — Reducing, non—reducing and total sugars. |
