Abstract

The main aspect of the research in a Switched Reluctance motor (SRM) drives is the converter design. The performance and the cost of the drive are highly affected by performance of the converter. This thesis introduces a new converter 9A modified C-R converter) for SRM drives.
The modified C-R converter topology for common phases connected switched reluctance motor suitable for low-voltage, low power, and low cost applications is proposed in this thesis.
A free wheeling switch during chopping period has been designed to improve the drive performance and efficiency over a wide range of speeds. The mathematical analyses of a new drive circuit of voltage applied have been deduced, the different modes of operation of the converter are dicussed and a comparison has been made with other converters. The converter have simple control requirements, the control is implemented using the microcontroller atmel (AT89C51) to drive the motor in three modes of operations (oone phase on. Two phase on, alternate excitation) at different speeds and through-up control by a microcontroller.
The design is implemented on small SRM, the performance of this converter is supported by theoretical and practical results.
