Abstract

Apoptosis refers to energy-dependent cell death in which individual
cells participate in their own fragmentation and deletion from living tissue.
It is a natural and active process in normal and neoplastic tissues.
The aim of this work was to study the role and regulation of
apoptosis in different renal diseases that may improve our knowledge ofthe
mode of action of current therapies, and it may also provide the basis for
the design ofnew therapeutic strategies.
This study was conducted on 80 children attending the pediatric
Nephrology and dialysis unit of pediatric department, Zagazig University
Hospital.
They were divided into ”4” groups:
Group (1): (20 cases)
(a) Includes 10 cases (4 males and 6 females) suffering from chronic renal
in sufficiency (CRI) and treated conservatively, their age ranged from
(3-13) years with mean value of8.15±3.83 years.
(b) Includes 10 cases (4 males and 6 females) suffering from end stage
renal diseases (ESRD) and on regular hemodialysis their age ranges
from (4-17 years) with mean value of 11.8±4.492 years in addition to
conservative management, regular hemodialysis was conducted for 3-4
hr/session, 3 times a week, of single pass acetate hemodialysis, at a
blood flow rate through double needle system of 125 mllmin and
dialysate flow (Qo) of 500 rnl/min.
During each session, high molecular weight heparin (50 Iu/Kg body
weight) was administered to prevent coagulation.
154
- Hollow fiber poly sulfone dialyzer (fesenius medical care AG) were
chosen according to the individual needs of the patients.
- Measurement of serum lNFcx. and CD9S was done just before dialysis
session and just after it.
