Abstract
The aim of the present work was to study the structural components and differences between quadriceps tendon and ligamentum patellae. Moreover, the variability between the anterior and posterior parts of each of them. Three tissue-specimens were taken from each of the ten formaline fixed adult male cadavers with no gross pathlogy. The specimens were taken from the attachment zones of the insertion of quadriceps tendon, the origin and the insertion of ligamentum patellae. Each specimen included part of the tendon or ligament and part of the compact bone to which they were attached. The anterior part of each specimen was marked. The specimens were fixed in 10% neutral buffered formol saline for one week, decalcified in 2% nitric acid till softening of bone (about 3 weeks) and processed for paraffin blocks. Sections were cut so as to include the whole thickness. They were stained with Hx & E, Masson’s trichrome, toluidine blue and silver stain.
