المستخلص Indomethacin was found to be a highly effective anti-inflammatory agent used for symptomatic treatment of selected cases of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout and severe cases of osteoarthritis including degenerative joint disease of the hip. It was occasionally used for musculo-skeletal injuries, surgery, menstrual cramps and vascular headache, it was also effective for pain due to pericardial inflammation after myocardial infarction (Harris, 1990). The mean half-life of indomethacin was estimated to be about 4.5 hours. The bioavailability of indomethacin was virtually 100%, with 90% of the dose absorbed within 4 hours, excreted via renal and billiary systems. It was found to undergo appreciable entero-hepatic circulation (Lipsky, Abramson, Crofford, Dubois, Simon and Van de Putte, 1998). |
