The Travel and Tourism industry consists of five main segments namely; lodging operations, food and beverage operations, transportation services, retail stores, and activities. (Ninemeier, 1991)
Hotel industry is important part of a larger enterprise known as the hospitality industry which is first part of travel and tourism industry. Hotel industry comprises several types of lodging operation such as city hotels and resort hotels.
The main objective of city hotels and resort hotels is satisfying needs of their customers by providing superior of products and services better than competitors.
City hotels are usually located in down town or business districts areas, cater primarily to business travellers, individual tourists and many tour groups. Most city hotels have conference rooms, guestroom suites, and banquet meal service.
Resort hotels are founded in the share, in the mountains, in sea and easily to arrive by plane, train or automobile. A resort hotel may best be described as one where people go to relax and be entertained, so it is for vacational travellers. It may have room service, several restaurants, and other forms of entertainment for their guests.
The hotel’s food and beverage division is generally second to the rooms division in terms of hotel revenue. It is responsible for producing food and serving food and beverage, so the success of food and beverage division mainly depends on the price and the quality of products and services it offers to customers.
