PDDS are a group of psychological conditions characterized by widespread abnormalities of social interactions and communication,as well as severely restricted interests and highly repetitive behavior. It includes autism, Asperger’s syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorders, Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Rett’s syndrome. The aim of this study is to formulate and apply Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI-R) as a tool for evaluating Egyptian children with pervasive developmental disorders in order to detect its accuracy in quantifying the autistic features among different subtypes of these disorders. The test was translated and applied on 80 children that were divided into 3 groups, group I PDD (35 children), group II normal (25 children) and group III MR (20 children). The children were subjected to a number of tests including Stanford Binet intelligence scale, CARS, GARS (2), VSMS and language evaluation (test of acquired communication skills and Arabic language test). The results of these tests were compared between the 3 groups .
