Abstract Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common cancers among females worldwide. Studies have shown that most patients with BC in the Eastern Mediterranean Region present for the first time at stages II and III. Breast self-examination is one of the methods of early detection of cancer breast.Aim and objectives: Increase awareness and improve attitudes and beliefs of female clerks toward cancer breast and breast self examination (BSE) as a method of early detection of cancer breast. Subjects and methods: It was an intervention study (pre and post-test) which was carried out on a random sample of female clerks working at Faculty of Medicine, Zagazig University. The results: The majority of our sample acquired a satisfactory level of knowledge immediately after applying the health education sessions in the post-intervention and during follow up stages. There was significant improvement in all items concerning knowledge about cancer breast including definition, risk factors, signs, Awareness about age of occurrence and prevention. Recommendations:1. Periodic follow up of the same participants 2. Breast self examination training program should be adopted as an element of the services offered to the working females. |
