Abstract

The study included thirty neobom infants suffering RDS. They
were classified into two groups, the first group was preterrn with RDS
(fifteen cases) and from them six cases died and remaining nine cases
survived and from the survived about four cases pass into acute renal
failure. The second group was fullterm with RDS (fifteen cases). They
include infant of diabetic mother, perinatal asphexia and babies deliv-
ered by cesarean section, from this group five caes died and ten cases
survived and from these survived cases about three cases pass into
acute renal failure. Fifteen cases with age and weight matched neo-
born infants without RDS selected as control group.
The blood gases was asessed in all infants and includes (pH,
PaC02, Pa02, 02 saturation, bicarbonate and base deficit), the blood
gases was done by arterial blood from radial artery and sometimes the
femoral artery.
In our work we found acute onest of acidosis either respiratory
(most common) or metabolic and decrease value of all elements of
blood gases except PaC02 that significantly increased and high level
of base deficit and these reflected on the function of kidney.
