Abstract Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is the technology of choice for the fourth generation (4G) high data rate mobile system known as Long Term Evolution (LTE). OFDM is also the technology used in WiMAX. It is expected that OFDM will be the dominant wireless technology of the current decade. Despite its excellent advantages of transmitting high data rate signals, OFDM is very sensitive to synchronization Errors. This thesis deals with the performance of OFDM in different morphology classes which can affect OFDM synchronization. The complexity of the Mathematical Performance Modeling of OFDM is growing exponentially with the number of Subcarriers and the modulation order. It is shown that Matlab simulation can be accurate and produces equivalent results. OFDM modeling and simulation are used to find the performance of OFDM when using higher order phase shift keying (PSK) modulation techniques. It is shown that the Inter carrier Interference caused by severe multipath fading channels can be reduced using repetition coding called Polynomial Cancellation Coding (PCC). The OFDM trade off between the transmitted power and channel bandwidth is illustrated. |
