Abstract Contact laryngeal granuloma is a benign inflammatory lesion of the larynx that is usually found in the posterior glottis, overlying the vocal process of the arytenoid cartilage (Benjamin and Croxson, 1985). Contact ulcer refers to a superficial ulcerative lesion, located in the posterior glottis, overlying the vocal process of the arytenoid cartilage. These lesions represent different stages of the same pathology. The cause of these lesion is injury to the posterior glottis(Hoffman et al,2001);this injury may be due to mechanical trauma, inflammatory causes or both (Feder and Michell,1994). Prevention involves avoiding or eliminating the etiologic factors. And Treatment involves voice therapy, antibiotics, steroids, botulinum injection, antireflux therapy and surgical excision (Hoffman et al,2001). A systematic review aimed to assess different modalities for management of laryngeal contact granuloma was conducted using search engines PUBMED ,from January 1980 through January 2010 in the English literature; using keywords (contact granuloma, laryngeal granuloma and contact ulcer). |
