Abstract
With the increase popularity of the internet,TCP/IP has become the most commonly used transpotr protocol and generates the prevalent part of internet traffic today. one methods of increasing the quality of service and offering access to high bit rates in the internet consits in carrying internt traffic over an ATM network, this will provide a good support for TCP. In this theis, a prioritized on-demand packet discard (POPD) scheme is proposed to improve the performance of the real time TCP traffic over ATM networks. Both simulation results and numerical analysis prove that, the proposed POPD scheme improves the performance of higher priority class over the traditional packet discard scheme without implementing priority. These results guarantee higher performance of the high priority traffic at the expense of the low priority traffic.
