Abstract This study documents the serological surveillance and trials for virus isolation of Avian Influenza during the period of 1/6/2003 to 10/2/2006 among 18 different governorates of Egypt. The samples were taken from different flocks of layer breeders, layers, ducks and geese. The positive serum samples with ELISA test were 0.23 % and all the examined serum samples with AGPT gave negative results. All trials for avian influenza virus isolation were negative during this period of surveillance and other viral and bacterial examination is recorded. The study also documents the first isolation of AI H5N1 from backyard ducks and geese in Egypt during the period of February 2006, it describes the laboratory diagnostic methods as virus isolation , Haemagglutination test (HA), Haemagglutination inhibition (HI) tests, Agar gel precipitation test (AGPT), direct antigen detection and Reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT.PCR). Finally the study records the Incidence of AI H5N1 outbreak in the backyard ducks and geese in Egypt during the period of February to May 2006. |
