Abstract

The present study was carried out to investigate: a) the different factors
affecting IVM of camel oocytes and b) the ability of the in vitro matured
camel oocytes to be fertilized in vitro using frozen-thawed camel semen.
For this purpose, seven experiments were conducted.
Experiment 1:
Was carried out to study the effect of seasons of reproduction (breeding
and non-breeding seasons) on oocyte yield and quality. Oocytes were
collected using aspiration method. The oocytes yield in each season was
recorded and the average number of oocytes /ovary was calculated. Oocytes
were evaluated under stereomicroscope and classified as follows:
Good quality: oocytes with five or more layers of complete cumulus
cells and evenly granulated dark ooplasm.
Fair quality: oocytes with 1-4 layers of cumulus cells and evenly
granulated dark ooplasm.
Poor quality: oocytes with cumulus cells incompletely surrounding the
oocyte.
Denuded: oocytes without cumulus cells and covered by zona
pellucida.
Experiment 2:
Was carried out to study the effect of reproductive status of mature
camels (pregnant and non-pregnant) on oocytes yield, quality and in vitro
maturation. Oocytes were collected using aspiration method
