Abstract This study dealed with the Effects of Micro-Aid (Yucca schidigera saponins) supplementation on live body weight, some blood metabolic parameters and some ruminal parameters including ruminal protozoal and bacterial count. A total number of 12, one year old casterated and fistulated male goats were individually weighed and allocated into 3 groups: control group, group supplemented with Micro-Aid orally , group supplemented with Micro-Aid intraruminally. For 8 weeks, Micro-Aid was supplemented at a dose of 3 g/head/day. Results revealed that Micro-Aid supplementation increased significantly (p<0.05) live body weight, ruminal total bacterial number and total volatile fatty acids concentration in the rumen. Furthermore Micro-Aid supplementation increased significantly (p<0.05) molar proportion of propionic acid in the rumen and consequently decreased the molar proportion of acetic acid. Also, increased serum total protein concentration. Ruminal protozoal count was decreased significantly (p<0.05) due to Micro-Aid supplementation. In addition Micro-Aid showed a significant hypoglycaemic and hypocholesterolaemic effect when compared to the control. |
