Abstract

Study objective was to evaluate and improve of some bacterial vaccines against some respiratory affection in sheep by experimentation of 4 different types of Pasteurella vaccines; whole cell formalized vaccine, sonicated inactivated vaccine, microwave inactivated vaccine and outer membrane protein vaccine, in addition to injection of BCG as an immunostimulant with outer membrane protein J vaccine. The protective values of these vaccines were evaluated by: (1) Potency test in 3400 Swiss white mice 18-20 gm average weight, (2) Measuring the antibody titre in sera of rabbits at different intervals vaccinated by formalized, sonicated, microwave and OMP yaccines, (3) Measuring antibody titre in sera of lambs average weight (40 kg) by IHA vaccinated by formalized, OMP and OMP+BCG at different intervals, (4) Passive mouse protection test in 80 mice by sera of sheep vaccinated with formalized, OMP and OMP+BCG vaccine. The results of these experimental, trials in mice, rabbits and sheep showed that the prepared Pasteurella vaccines were safe and effective. The result implicated Pasteurella OMP+BCG vaccine as the major protective vaccine followed by OMP alone + sonicated, formalized and microwave vaccines. The BCG is a non-specific immunostimulant that enhance the cell mediated immunity.
