Abstract

Direct rapid detection of avian influenza virus revealed 25 samples were examined using anigen rapid AIV antigen test kit, there were 14 samples positive (12 chicken samples, 1 duck and 1 quail). Five samples only were examined using Synbiotic Influenza type A antigen test kit, the five samples were positive (four from chickens and one from duck).Subtyping of 14 positive samples were examined using Anigen rapid H5 AIV antigen test kit. 8 samples were positive for H5 while 6 samples were negative.Among 22 samples processed for virus isolation from different places, 9 samples yielded haemagglutinating agents and they were detected from the 1st passage in embryonated chicken eggs after long preservation of the inoculum at -20°C.Results of PCR, The positive samples in PCR of M gene were 6 specimens (3, 10, 19, 36, and 37, and 38) out of 16 examined samples While The positive samples in multiplex PCR (M gene, H5, and N1) were similarly 6 samples (3, 10, 19, 36, 37, and 38) out of 16 examined samples. Intravenous Pathogenicity Index in 8 weeks SPF chickens was 2.83, so the isolated virus is the Highly Pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAI) strain.
