Abstract The present study was carried out on 550 chickens & 1100 (tracheal and cloacal swabs) representing 19 chickens farms (broilers-broiler breeders-layers) & 6 backyards from different governorates in Egypt from 2006 ti II end of 2008 for detection of naturally infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza HPAI H5 using Real-Time PCR compared with immunoflurescent test. The RRT-PCR result showed that 17 positive flocks and six positive backyards while two flocks were negative. On the other hand, RRT-PCR recorded negative results for IL T & New Castle disease. The most severe histologic lesions were shown in the upper and lower respiratory system that characterised by catarrhal to fibrinous tracheitis, interstitial pneumonia with edema in the interstitial tissue. Severe affection of blood vessels in different organs appeared in the form of congestion, fibrin thrombi and vasculitis. The immunoflurscent test proved presence of AI viral antigen in trachea, lungs, heart, intestine, pancreas, kidneys, ovary, oviduct and brain. The associated pathological alterations in third year were affected by genetic diversity of HPAI H5N I virus in the field. |
