Abstract

The present study covers the investigation of the effects of Pb acetate and CdCh poisoning on the different clinicopathological, histopathological and immunological parameters in guinea pigs. The possible protective role of cod liver oil as a natural supplement of vitamins (E, A, D) and omega 3 nutrients was also studied! One hundred and fifty two guinea pigs were used. The animals were divided into five groups, control and four experimental groups. Two doses of 1 % chicken RBCs were given intramuscularly at two weeks interval before chemical pollutants administration as an antigen to monitor the immune competence to all groups of the experimental animals. The second and the thirds groups were administered lead acetate orally three time per week at dose of 5.5 mg/Pb/.Kg body weight. Fourth and fifth groups were administered cadmium chloride orally three times per week at a dose of 2.5 mg cadmium per Kg body weight. The control group received distilled water. Cod liver oil was given to the third and fifth groups orally three times per week at a dose of 0.35 mg! animal two weeks before and continued simultaneously to the administration of the chemical pollutants through the experiment. Guinea pigs were kept under observation for 9 weeks. The investigations included clinical signs, mortality rate, body and organs weight and relative organ weight, hemogram, serum biochemistry (AST, ALT, ALP, total protein, albumin, globulin, A/G ratio, urea, creatinine, glucose and level of serum lead and cadmium), post-mortem and histopathological examinations of liver, kidney, spleen and brain as well as immunological assay (hemagglutination inhibition test and lymphoblastogenesis).
