Abstract In the present study, the pathogenicity of mycobacterial species in goldfish was studied via the intraperitoneal inoculation of 107 CFU M. fortuitum and M.marinum; the results revealed that the signs in goldfish infected with M.marinum were less severe than in the goldfish infected with fortuitum and the signs were time dependant. Histopathological studies proved the presence of hard and soft granuloma further on multiple granulomatous reaction were seen in the same area enclosed within the’ same connective tissue sheath producing co-granulomation, calcification was markedly detected within the soft granuloma at the late stage of the infection. PCR was applied on M. fortuitum and M.marinum in their pure culture and on the artificially infected fish tissues. Immunohistochemical examination revealed positive reaction, the immunostaining reaction was stronger in frozen sections than that of paraffin embedded sections. |
