Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of dietary restriction
(moderate and severe feed restriction) for 21 days followed by 8 days of refeeding in
female New Zealand rabbits as biostimulant method on; oocyte classification, GDF-9
gene expression, hematological, some biochemical and hormonal parameters. This
study revealed that feed restriction followed by refeeding lead to increase the
percentage of mature oocytes accompained by ’increasing in the concentration of
GDF-9. On the other hand, feed restriction induced normocytic normocromic anemia,
leukocytosis accompanied by lymphocytosis, neutrophilia and monocytopenia . In
addition, it decreased total protein, albumin, globulin, BUN, and increased creatinine
concentration. All these parameters .returned to its normal values after .refeeding,
Glucose, cholesterol, HDL and hormonal ’profile showed ’non significant changes.
Regarding to these ’results, feed ’restriction as biostimulant method should be applied
on rabbits’ farms due to its economic importance, increasing animal fertility and has
no great effect on clinicopathological parameters.
