Abstract Embroidery is the art of decorating fabric or other materials with design stitched in strands of thread using a needle. In new fashion styles embroidery dominate most of the outer wear; in the mean time embroidery on towels and bed sheets is becoming essential. This makes it an important factor that affects the final appearance and the life time of the product. Therefore, the aim of this work is to optimize the embroidery design, size, yarn type and needle type according to the fabric weight to achieve the optimum garment performance. For that eighteen trial experimental designs of one factor at three levels of design size and four factors at two levels (yarn type, needle size, design shape and fabric finish) were applied. Moreover, the durability of the embroidery design wiIl affect that of the garment. For this reason, in order to predict the performance of the garment during its lifetime; the embroidery design stitch strength, bending length and crease recovery were measured before washing, after ten washes and thirty washes. A quadratic regression equation was proposed, to determine the relation between the properties tested and the factors under study. The design size and the needle size are the most important factors that affect the embroidery design properties. Also the t-test was applied for determining the effect of number of washing on the quality of garments. FinaIly the geometric mean and the area under the radar curve were calculated in order to reach the optimum conditions for embroidery design .The area under the radar plot was found more sensitive than the geometric mean. |
