Abstract

Parasitic infestation in camels was studied on living camels as well as on slaughter house materials obtained from slaughter camels. 596 living camels were examined clinically laboratory and parasitologically . -J Th.Oe camels were grouped- according to their clinical status into 4 groups1- Apparantly normal camels, 2- camels Suffering from digestive disturbances , 3-camels Suffering from respiratory disturbances and 4- camels Suffering from both digestive and respiratory disturbances. Examination of the faecal samples showed percentage of Infestation with Parempiajstomum species C 0.0; 1.3; 0.6 and 0.0% ) , Moneizia species C 1.95% , 0.87% , 0.6% and 0.0% ) , Trichuris species C 0.95% , 7.6% , 0.6% and 2.7%), Strongy].oldes papillosus C 6.5% , 16.6% , 5.2% , and 13.6%), Nematodirus species C 1.95% , 18.4% , 4.5% and 2.7 %), Haemonchus species C 54% , 34% , 48.5% and 59.7 %), Chabertia species C 0 % , 21.9% , 11.7% and 9.7 %), Cooperia species C 20% , 27.3% , 22% and 34.7 %), Trichostrongylus species( 36%, 13.6%, 29.4% and 20.8 %), Ostertagia species C 6% , 6.8% , 2.9% and 6.9 %), Dictyocaulus viviparous larvaeCo%, 0.87%, 8 % and 6,8 %), in four groups respectively . The average egg count was 700 , 2600 , 2100 and 1800 C E.P.G. ) in the four groups, Regarded with treatment , Ivomec gave 100% reduction of both gastro—intestinal nematode eggs and lung worm larvae with clinical improvment of the animal health. On II 9 the other band citarin showed 100% reduction of the lung worm larvae, and 87 — 100% reduction of the gastro inte-.stinal nematodes with disappearance of the clinical symptoms. Concerning with slaughter house materals : Head: Examination showed 10% of camels werer infested with camels bot fly larvae. The pupation periad was 19 days at room temperature. I~ne: Examination revealed that 23.75% of camels were infested with hydatid cysts 87% were fertile , 13% were sterile. On the other hand 28 lungs C 1.8% ) were infested with lung worm Dictyocaulus viviparus. Heart : Examination showed that 0.66% of heart have calcified cysticeri. Liver : Examination revealed one liver C 0.066% ) was infested with liver fluke C Fasciola gigantic a ). While 84 livers haa bayd&tid cyst , 70 of them were fertile, 14 were sterile. Spleen : Examination showed 28 spleen had- hydatid cyst, 23 of them were fertile, the remaining 5 were sterile. Kidney : Examination showed negative suits Abomasal mucous membrane and its contents: Showed the pe.rsence of the different heiminth parasites were Haemenchus Contortus 51.6% , f~arabronema sharj~bini 13.3% Ostertagia oircum~ine*4.. 3~.Trichostrongylus &xie 30.3% , Camelostrongylus mentulatus 1.6% and Paramphistonum species 1.6% Examination of the intestinal sfluoue membrane and its contents: Revealed the presence of the different species of the helminth parasites with the percentage Moniezia expansa 20% , Moniezia trignophora 30% Stilesia globipunctata 20% and Avitillina species t.2% Nematode parasites were Triohostrongylus c.olubriformis 10% , Trichostrongylus porbolurus 25% , Impalaia aegyptise 10% and Gooperia gncophora 28.3% Examination of the large intestine showed that one camel C 0.8% ) was infested with Trichuris ovis Experimental infection of puppies with scolices obtained from fertile h!datid cysts:— Faeca]. examination revealed eggs appeared in the faeces after 52 days post infection C P.1. ) , segments appeared after 56 days C P.1. ). One infected dog gave segments at 60 days C P.1 ) . These segments were free from eggs.p055j~~7 other strain than camel dog straim. Post-mort~ .m examination of experimentally infected dog showed that unsegmentation of the Echinococcus granulsus worms until 15 days( P.1. ), at 21 days C P.1. ) worms formed from 2 segments, at 28 days C P.1. ) the worms were contain 3 segments at 49 days C P.1. ) the gravid segment of the worms contain small number of eggs, at 56 days C P.1 ) the worms were very developed and gravid segment contain large number of eggs, at 63 and 70 days, the worms were more developed and gravid segments were contain high number of fully mature eggs. from our openion, the presence of some parasites of camels of other ruminants and vice versa, may be due to the direct contact between the different ruminants under field condItions, such condition probably has played an important role in the epizootology of these parasites as well as in prophylactic and therapeutic measurs applied to their control. In spite of the per-iodical treatment of ruminants in Egypt against helminth parasites every 3.4 months, camels receive little attention. It is worth paying attention to all herbavt’raus animals md uding camels which are considered to be important reservoir host.
