Abstract

The descriptive study was selected where a record review was carried Out to reveal the changing pattern and trend of neoplasms, by using the registered data for the Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department of the Main University Hospital in Alexandria. It includes all the registered cancer cases that attended for treatment during the year 2005 and 2009.The statistical analysis of the collected data from the present study revealed the following results: • Cases attended during 2005 totaled 2222 cases and during 2009 was 2000 cases. • The peaks of monthly trends were September and August. The lowest percents were on January October. • Female represented in 59% and the rest (4 1%) were males. • Old age (>40 ys.) represented in 78.7%. the median age during 2009 was 53 years compared to 50 years during 2005. • About three quarters (72.5%) lived in Alexandria, the rest (27.5%) came from outside Alex. • The ordered pattern of cancer cases according to its type in accordance to the ICD-10 classification: I- Breast and female genital cancers (37.3%). Mainly breast (30.3%) .2- Digestive system cancers (17.1%). Mainly esophageal and gaster-intestinal (7.7%) and liver (6%).3- Respiratory system cancers (10.4%).4- CVS & lymphatic cancers (9.6%). Mainly lymphoid, hemopoetic and related organs (9.3%).5- Urinary system cancers (5.8%).6- Eye and CNS cancers (5.5%). Mainly CNS (5.2%).7- Endocrine cancers (3.3%).8- Skin and soft tissues cancers (2.8%).9- Bone and articular cancers (2.5%).10- Male genital cancers (2.3%).
