Abstract In this study the main item selected was mood changes in glaucomatous patients comparing with a group of diabetics and another control group. There were additional objectives like evaluation of anxiety and some personality traits. A conclusive review of available literature was undertaken; including the incidence of emotional conflict in ophthalmology, the mechanism of emotions, psychosomatic reactions involving the eyes, classification of glaucoma, and the different neuro-vacular and mechanical theories of pathogenesis of primary glaucoma with a special reference to the role of psychiatric, nervous, endocrine and allergic factors in the aetiology of that disease. A group of (30) glaucomatous patient was selected at random from out patients in Zagazig University Hospital and from ophthalmology department. (20) diabetic patients selected from lazer unite of ophthalomology department, (20) normal individuals selected from workers and visitors of the same Hospital. They were studied from the medico psychological pointview including psychiatric interview and psychological tests-including the following: - Zagazig depression scale (ZDS). - Taylor’s Anxiety scale (TAS). - Eysenck personality Inventory (EPI). Both glaucoma and diabetic groups were submitted to complete ophthalmological examination including the following steps: 1- Visual Acuity. 2;- Fundus examination. 3-Gonioscopyto determine Angle type. 4- Intraocular pressure measurement. 5- Visual field |
