Abstract The aim of the present work is to determine the value of Doppler ultrasonagraphic study of the IVC and hepatic vein in assessment of dry body weight in uremic patients on maintenance haemodialysis. To achieve such aim we select eighty ESRD patients admitted to Menoufiya University Hospital- Internal Medicine Department, (GroupІ) and forty normal healthy adults, age and gender matched with patient’s group was used as control group (GroupII). All patients and controls were subjected to clinical evaluation and basic laboratory investigations.Dry body weight was assessed clinically and by Ultrasonagraphic Duplex study of IVC parameters (Indexed inferior vena cava diameter(VCDi), inferior vena cava collapsibility index (IVCCI), IVC flat ratio(F-IVC) and right atrial pressure by hepatic vein Doppler. IVC parameters were assessed with patient recline in supine position for 10 minutes, measurements were taken twice within 30 minutes before and after dialysis for patients. We noted that according to volume assessment of the studied patients there was a large discrepancies between weight- based and IVCbased assessment of volume status predialysis and according to event assessment we found that patients with intradialytic events were hypovolemic as assessed by IVC parameters except IVCCI were euovolemic in patients suffer from one symptoms and hypovolemic in patients suffer from multiple symptoms. |
