Abstract

The aim of this work was to study the different side effects appeared in rats after exposure to chlorambucil doses and the possible curative potential of lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) oral administrations against chlorambucil intoxication.
Material used in the work:

Chlorambucil (LEUKERAN®) (7.5mg/kg/day): it is an anticancer drug and served as a mutagen (toxicant).

Cymbopogon citratus (Lemon grass) volatile oil (75mg/kg/day): it is a medicinal plant and served as a curative agent.
The present study was carried out using 105 adult male albino rats (Rattus norvegicus) of an average body weight about 100 ± 10 gm.
In this study, nine major experiments are planned:-
1.
Phytochemical investigation of lemongrass oil constituents by Gas Chromatographic-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) after the extraction of total volatile oils from lemon grass by simple hydro-distillation.
2.
Choice of chlorambucil (7.5 mg/kg/day) period of treatment and the selection was carried out according to maximum damage occurred in DNA in liver and testes tissues.
3.
The curative role of Cymbopogon citratus volatile oil (75 mg/kg/day) against DNA damage induced by chlorambucil in liver and testis after fifteen days .
