Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder. The essential feature of which is persistent elevation of blood glucose level. This metabolic disorder includes derangement of carbohydrate. lipid. protein and mineral metabolism.
Trace element have important role in the regulation and maintenance of many important biochemical and physiological processes within the human body. Impairment of metabolism of some of them is linked to disturbance of many of the important function and activities of the human body.
In this study the researcher tried to investigate and identify needs for developing and implementing an in-service education programme designed toward improving the knowledge and skills of nurses working in medical department in relation to principles of diabetes care.
The aime of the study was:
1- To assess nurse knowledge and practices concerning diabetic care.
2- To design implement and evaluate the outcome of in-service training program given to nurses working with diabetic patients.
