Abstract
Nurses are seen to be in a key position in engagement education and ij)l’OBlOrion of health by providing information to the patient. For allowing Idle patient to understand his illness and know the methods that can assist on recovery and how to adjust to illness. This role is essential because lmost patients bave insufficient information about the disease and its effect and methods of self care. this study; to assess slef-care behaviour for patients with Ml and assessment of patient knowledge on self-care and factors which effect it. To accomplish this aim a sample of60 patients admitted to Coronary Care Unit ofAssiut University Hospital were studied. Data were collected from the patients through interviewing by using assessment sheet which cunsists of inquiry about the; demographic data, risk factors for MI, assessment of patients knowledge on self-care for his disease, diet, activity and sexual relati~ stress, smoking, medication and role of the family member in patient’s care.
The main findings from the study were as follows: -The age ranged from 30-79 with a mean ± SD of 52.43 ± 11.85 years. -Most ofthe sample were male (63.3%). -The majority ofthe patients were married (93.3%).
