Abstract Thousands of patients are subjected for anaesthesia and surgery every year and tbeir safe recovery tends to be taken for granted. The recovery period is. however a dangerous time and complications can occur. The degree and seriousness of the complications depend among other faclors. on the patient”s health condition. the type of operation performed. the treatment and the pre-operative and the post-operative nursing care. Patients developing post-operative complications need addition. medical treatment. They are expected to be hospitalized for a longer period of time than those who do not develop complications. As a result. a direct increase in treatment costs. as well as. in the hospitalization costs is anticipated. This cost increase is directly related to the extra services provided for canplicated cases. This study aimed at the assessment of nursing activities rendered to patients undergoing abdominal surgelies. on immediate post-operative period. assessing knowledge and practice of nurses responsible for direct patient eare in jost-operative period and identifying by whom each activity is performed. |
