Abstract

Chronic hepatitis C is the most common cause of chronic liver disease
and cirrhosis, and the most common indication for liver transplantation in
developed countries (Charlton, 2005). Approximately 240 million people are
affected with hepatitis C virus (HCV) worldwide, comprising about 3% of the
global population. Egypt has a high prevalence rate, which is about 19%; 10-20
folds higher than that in USA (Kumar et al., 2005).
