Abstract Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) is common in several neonatal disorders. RDS is most often applied to severe lung disorders that are not only responsible for more deaths in the pediatric population than any other disorders, but also carries the highest risk in terms of long term neurologic complications (Wong, 1993). The aim of this study. To assess nursing care provided to newborn with respiratory distress in the Special Care Baby Units located in different hospitals in Assiut. Research design: An exploratory descriptive research design was utilized in the study. Setting: The study was conducted in three areas, which were Special Care Baby Units at Assiut university hospital, assiut general hospital (El-Shamla), and El-Eman hospital. Subject: One hundred and sixty high-risk newborn infants, 132 were admitted in the Special Care Baby Unit at Assiut University Hospital, 14 newborn infants were admitted in El-Shamla Hospital and 14 newborn infants were admitted in El-Eman Hospital. Rgey clinically diagnosed with respiratory distress during the first day of admission. |
