Abstract

Summary and conclusion
A total number of 471 Male and female buffaloes were subjected to study. These animals were examined in slaughterhouses belong to Assiut Governorate (Mosha and Mateaa slaughterhouses) Assiut, Egypt. During the period from March 2010 to March 2011.
Animals were inspected before slaughtering for any abnormal clinical signs, Blood samples were collected from the jugular vein. The samples and carcasses were enumerated for studying the laboratory investigation in association to the post-mortem findings. The carcasses were examined carefully, lung lesions were collected for histopathological studies.
from the total number, 25 animals were clinically healthy, showed good
general body condition score and free from any post-mortem pathological lesions and kept as control. Blood samples of control animals and those with
post-mortem pathological lesions were subjected to laboratory investigations.
Three types of blood samples were collected from each animal under study:
Whole blood samples were used for haematological analysis and for measuring plasma fibrinogen level, blood samples for separation of serum were used for measuring serum haptoglobin, total proteins and albumin levels. Blood samples for ESR were collected on tubes containing sodium citrate (3.8%) as anticoagulant (1:4).
Specimens from the affected lung were preserved in 10% neutral buffered formalin for histopathological examination.
Out of the total number (471) of examined buffaloes, only 69 buffaloes had lung affections. The different types of the pathological lung affections were classified according to the gross and histopathological findings.
