Abstract

In this investigation, some biological and ecological aspects were studied on the flower bugs, OiLia4 abd4iuiL6(Reut) and OJtZu.4 £ct.go1u4 (Fieber). The effect of these.predators on regulating the number of some phytophagous pests was investigated in the clover, cotton, and corn fields. The results obtained could be summarized as follows:
I. Faunistic survey of O*Zu4 spp in certain field crops:
a) The O)LZa4 populations in clover, cotton, and corn, under the studied conditions, were the most common predators on all these crops. Their seasonal abundance level start with a low level by the begnniug of each crop season, then increased gradually to reach their peaks during the inf lorescence stage. The predator was numerous during the last two weeks of May on clover, the period from 15th of June to 15th of June to 15th of July on cotton, and October on corn.
b) It was found that thrips was the most preferred preys among the aphids and mites on clover. However, the aphids on cotton, and jassids on corn were the most preferred preys.
c) The temperature seems to be a key factor affecting the poulation changes of Ot&4 counts over their seasonal abundance on their hostplants. The relative humidity ranked as a second factor affecting the seasonal population changes of O.LL4 app.
2. The durinal activity studies showed that the O)tiu.4 counts were more domitiate on 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. than any other examined time of day, with a significant difference.
3. The number of OJtiit4 app recovered by inflorescences inspection was significa ntly higher than that recovered by sweep-net method, during the successive sampling period,
4. Nymphal and adult stages of OIti.u.4 spp. were collected.from different group of plants (weeds, field crops, vegetable plants, ornamental plants), but
flowers, pick topph, and Egyptian clover.
