Abstract The present work aims to present new procedures for the determination of chlorpromazine hydrochloride, trifluoperazine dihydrochloride and tizanidine hydrochlorides n bulk drug and in commercial dosage forms. This thesis contains two main parts for the determination of the above drugs. The first part includes a simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method for determination of chlorpromazine hydrochloride, trifluoperazine dihydrochloride through ion-pairs formation with bromcresol purple (BCP), chlorophenol red (CPR), alizarin red S (AR), cresol red (CR) and bromthymol blue (BTB). Similarly, tizanidine hydrochloride with bromcresol purple (BCP), chlorophenol red (CPR), bromthymol blue (BTB) and bromphenol blue (BPB). The absorbance of each ion-pair was measured at maximum wavelength. Different factors were studied as pH, temperature and interfering ions to establish the best conditions for the determination. The second part is based on kinetic investigation of the oxidation reaction of tizanidine hydrochloride with alkaline KMnO4 at room temperature for a fixed time of 25min. These methods are simple, precise and easily to applied for detection of the above drugs in bulk drug and in commercial dosage forms. Comparison of the results of the proposed methods with those of official ones and complete validation study were also performed. |
