Abstract

The thesis consists of four chapters, the first one concerning with the introduction, while the second chapter including the experimental work, the third chapter including the results and discussion, finally chapter four containing 140 references and Arabic Summary.
The objective of this study is aimed at the synthesis of some chemical compounds and evaluating them as anticorrosion and/or antirust additives for water soluble metal-working fluids with different percentage according to the final usage of the product.
Also the study is concerned with the possibility of production of primary emulsifier based on heavy alkyl benzene which is produced locally, since the percentage of such primary emulsifier is up to 25% for the formulated water soluble metal-working fluids.
The first part of the experimental work including the synthesis of some chemical compounds and evaluating them as anticorrosion and/or antirust additives to be added to the primary emulsifier for water soluble metal-working fluids, therefore, different compounds were synthesized depending on the reaction of boric acid with mono, di and triethanol- amine to give mono, di and triborate amine esters which are labeled as
S1, S2 and S3 respectivley and also the reaction of phosphoric acid with mono or di or triethanolamine to give mono, di and triphosphate amine esters which are labeled as S4, S5 and S6 respectively. It was found also that, the reaction of lactic acid and mono or di or triethanolamine amine gives mono, di and trilactate esters which are labeled as S7, S8 and S9 respectively.
The evaluation of such synthesized compounds shows that
the synthesized ester formed from the reaction of boric acid with diethanolamine S2 with a percentage of 2% wt., pass at the antirust test according to IP 125; therefore S2 can be considered as an anticorrosion and/or antirust additive for water soluble metal-working fluids, while, the other compounds S1 and S3 do not pass at the antirust test according to IP 125 so these compounds can not be considered as antirust or anticorrosion additives for water soluble metal-working fluids.
It was found that the synthesized phosphate esters formed from the reaction of phosphoric acid with mono ethanolamine S4 gave the only acceptable results according to IP 125 with a percentage of 1% wt. in which the test passes with such percentage, and therefore S4 can be considered as anticorrosion and/or antirust additive for water soluble metal-working fluids. While the other compounds S5 and S6 do not pass the antirust test according to IP 125; so these compounds can not be considered as antirust or anticorrosion additives for water soluble metal-working fluids.
Generally the synthesized lactic esters formed from the reaction of lactic acid with diethanolamine S8 with a percentage of 2% wt., pass the antirust test according to IP 125; and therefore S8 can be considered as anticorrosion and/or antirust additives for water soluble metal-working fluids, while the other compounds S7 and S8 do not pass at the antirust test according to IP 125; so these compounds can not be considered as antirust or anticorrosion additives for water soluble metal-working fluids.
