Abstract

Phosphoric acid is one of the most important raw materials for the production of a series of essential products for the human life today. Examples are mineral phosphate fertilizers which are used in millions of tons in the agricultural industry. Enormous quantities of phosphates are important for the production of essential basic food. Phosphoric acid is produced by two commercial methods, wet and thermal processes. Wet process phosphoric acid is used in fertilizer production. Thermal process phosphoric acid is of much higher purity and is used in the manufacture of high grade chemicals, pharmaceuticals, detergents, food products and other nonfertilizer products. The acid produced by thermal process is extremely pure however, it is expensive.
Attention is directed to phosphate deposits as a potential source for uranium for several reasons, among these are the great demand for this metal, the shortage of uranium supplies forecast, as well as pollution associated with the use of uranium contained phosphate fertilizers.
The present work is aimed to study the extraction of uranium from commercial phosphoric acid using different synergistic mixtures. The present thesis is composed of a three main chapters, each of which can be summarized as follow:
