Abstract Some biological and cytogenetical studies were carried out on the rock snail thais carinifera in lake timsah,Suez Canal. The snails were collected during the period between July 2006 and September 2007.The population is dominated by animals with shell length ranged from 5-6 cm,which represented 61.96% of the total individuals.Good correlations were found between the shell length and most of the other parameters (shell width, aperture length and body whorl) with negative allometric growth. The correlation co-efficient values between the shell length and the weights (total weight, tissue wet weight, tissue dry weight and operculum weight) were significant with isometric, positive and negative allometric growth along.Goand development, reproductive cycle and sex ratio were studied through ahistological investigation of its goandsStaging criteria for the gonad of male and female snails were described. |
